Wyre Forest District Council
Six were appointed by the Local Authority to manage the outline design and construction of a new 55 space car park to expand on the current provision within Bewdley town centre. The site of the new car park was the former medical centre and community library, following demolition in early 2017.
Six were engaged to develop an outline scheme for planning submission together with the preparation of employer’s requirements and associated tender documents for public procurement. Pre-contract, Six’s role was extended to perform principal designer and cost management/QS functions. With the scheme being won by and awarded to Montel Civil Engineering, Six were retained post-contract by the client to administer the contract and project manage the works. The £550k car park incorporated a linked extension to an existing surface car park, requiring the design and construction of a new retaining structure to the entire length of the new lower car park together with newly formed access ramps for both vehicles and pedestrians. Associated pay machines, and heritage specification street furniture and lighting were provided to compliment the local area and meet the requirements of the Authorities planning approval. The project reached satisfactory completion and handover in Spring 2018, on-time and within budget, despite very challenging conditions on site during the winter period.

University of the
West of England
Six were appointed Principal Designer for the design development and construction of a new sports facility to accommodate a wide range of sports for the University of the West of England (UWE).
The facility includes two artificial pitches, natural grass pitch & associated warm up areas, filming gantry/viewing platform, covered spectator areas, welcome reception, and changing and welfare facilities building.
The £4.5m facility was designed and installed by Verde Recreo, a specialist in outdoor sports facilities, in response to a brief to provide a new home for UWE Sport and provide increased opportunities for the development and participation in sport for UWE students and the wider community. The scheme was designed to meet the standards of the Football Association (FA), FIFA and World Rugby (WR) standards. The project was carried out to BIM Level 2 with COBie asset information provided for the maintenance and operation of the facility.
The facility is capable of being managed and operated locally (on site) and remotely from the main University Campus through the incorporation of a sophisticated building management system. Six’s role extended to coordinating the compilation of the building manual for the completed facility to further aid post-occupancy care and maintenance.

Rose Hill Primary School

Six assisted its client, River Learning Trust, in securing £1.3m from the Department for Education (DfE) for the undertaking of essential repairs and renewals throughout Rose Hill Primary School, in order to make property improvements to provide a healthy and happy learning environment.
Six initially secured funding ‘in principle’ through a detailed condition survey, that identified the extent of this shortfall, with supporting feasibility study setting out an effective means of addressing the works required.
With ‘in-principle’ funding secured, Six, with support of its architectural partner – Roberts Limbrick prepared a full design & specification and sought competitive prices from regional contractors to secure the funding. The works will include new flooring, modern lighting, play surfacing and external windows and doors, together with targeted redecoration, roof repairs and re-cladding.
Six are retained to manage the works, which started during the February half-term and due for completion in early Autumn 2019.

Six were engaged by the University of Worcester to provide full-time project management support to its works implementation programme across St John’s Campus through the Summer holiday period of 2018. The role was also extended to provide full design/specification, principal designer and contract administration of bathroom refits throughout a halls of residence as well as technical design support to the refurbishment of its sports centre reception.
The role required a full-time presence at the Campus through the Summer period to ensure coordination of all capital and maintenance works in progress, including those under the control of both in-house estate teams and external consultants. Six chaired weekly meetings with key University stakeholders and support services to ensure effective and efficient delivery of the works alongside summer education programmes and preparation for the new academic year.
Six are a property and construction consultant appointed to the University’s Estate Services Multi-Disciplinary Consultancy Framework, with focus on project management, employer’s agent and principal designer services. The consultancy framework is in place until 2019/20.
University of Worcester, Summer Works Programme
Building Surveying and MEP Engineering Services
Sixwere engaged through their existing client Track Consulting’s lifecycle modelling appointment to provide a detailed review of condition, remaining life expectancy and replacement cost factors across 3 privately operated establishments. The surveys were carried out at HMP Parc, HMP Birmingham, and HMP Oakwood throughout 2018.
The asset condition survey appraises all site wide elements of building structure, and fabric together with all maintainable mechanical and electrical installations and equipment. The data collected as part of the survey is used to produce a lifecycle model to assist the operator with managing back log maintenance, allocating budgets, and forecasting expenditure for the remaining years of their contractual period. In the case of HMP Parc, the survey has been undertaken on an annual basis with the fund company requiring periodic updates to the lifecycle model. HMP Parc was the first Prison in the UK to be built under the Governments Private Finance Initiative, and is currently being managed and operated within the PFI contractual period. On an ad-hoc basis, and over recent years, Six have been engaged to provide general building surveying services together with the provision of technical advisor roles at HMP Parc.

Sixwere appointed in 2018 by the multi academy trust River Learning Trust to manage a range of condition and compliance improvement projects, funded through the Government’s Schools Condition Allocation. Through a wide ranging multi-disciplinary role, Six have successfully delivered various projects across the Trust’s portfolio of 18 schools throughout Oxfordshire.
Six were engaged to take each project from the initial scoping and design stages through to on site delivery and handover, therefore incorporating all pre and post contract functions. Six were also responsible for obtaining all necessary statutory approvals associated with the schemes. Projects were wide and varied and incorporated schemes such as roof renewals, window replacements, internal; refurbishments, renewal of services, plant and equipment, and external re-surfacing works. Six’s role in support of River Learning Trust extends through the provision of more traditional building surveying services including planned maintenance assessments, condition surveys, pre-acquisition advice, preparation of cost plans. The delivery of projects under the 2018 SCA programme has been a success for both the Trust and the individual schools involved, with the outputs of the projects significantly contributing to the Trust’s increasingly efficient estate management strategy.
Six are now working with RLT to deliver projects within the 2019 programme, across an expanding portfolio of schools.
